Iron Flame

Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this as much as the first one, but these cliffhangers… they will be the death of me.

"Remember it's only the body that's fragile. You are unbreakable."

This quote will live on in my mind indefinitely. Let me begin by noting that I did not find this book slow, and I do not understand why many thought it was too long. I appreciated every detail of the book. I can see why some people thought it was slow, but I still enjoyed it. I was mildly annoyed because Violet and Xaden were back and forth for most of the beginning of the book, but if I thought the first book threw me for a loop, the second book damn near took me out with all the jaw dropping plot twists… WHAT THE HELL.

To think that this series contains five books? And we won't receive our third until January 2025... the anticipation is slowly killing me. We delved further into emotions in this second installment of this series, and I loved seeing the relationships that were formed in the first book continue to strengthen amongst Violet, Rhiannon, Ridoc, and Sawyer, which was very heartwarming to see. The development we saw in each character was incredible; I am extremely devoted to all of these people. Violet and Xaden's character growth is only getting better. We finally get to witness more emotional depth in Xaden and a strong-willed Violet; it's as if the positions were reversed. THE SPICE… I thought it had me hooked in the first one but it had me on another level here.

I am still in utter disbelief that we have to wait because I have so many questions, but I'll read this book again soon. I can only speculate as to what the answers are, but if you thought Fourth Wing left you in disbelief and full of questions, wait until you read Iron Flame. I'm excited to see how the plot develops and what Rebecca has in store for us in terms of the characters, the storyline, and our three main dragons, Tairn, Andarna, and Sgaeyl.

Oh, FYI Andarna is the GOAT and I love Tairn and Sgaeyl as grumpy as they always are.
