Beach Read
Beach Read by Emily Henry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
My first Emily Henry book and she did not disappoint. This was such a great introduction into her work, and I now understand why all of you girlies were so adamant on telling me to read one of her books and I’m so glad I listened.
4.5/5
I’ve come to realize that EmHen has a talent for expressing emotions, ideas and thoughts in ways that are not only funny but also real and beautiful. Not only did she deliver a beautiful romance story, but she touched on themes of grief, loss, forgiveness and maybe one of my favorites the imperfections in people.
“Falling’s the part that takes your breath away. It’s the part when you can’t believe the person standing in front of you exists and happened to wander into your path”
I absolutely loved January and Gus — the push and pull of their relationship, they were both on their own journeys and together the destination was each other it almost seemed poetic. Their relationship was far more emotional than I had anticipated, and it made me laugh and tear. It was about coming to terms with who you are, accepting love after being hurt and even if things seem imperfect, they are still every bit as beautiful and deserving. There were some moments in the book that made my heart physically ached for January and at times where I really just wanted to knock some sense into Gus, but like I said the imperfection in people is what I loved about their story. It was like one giant love letter, and let's not even talk about the letters from January's father….
