My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I loved Jasper and Sloane's bond; despite their tensions, they always prioritized their friendship, knowing they knew each other like the back of their hands. They supported each other and recognized what the other needed, Jasper saving Sloane and Sloane helping Jasper; it was very sweet. They both meant so much to one other, and I enjoyed how it was depicted throughout the novel; it ended up being great.
We finally learn about why Jasper is the way he is: always concealing, quiet, and barely expressive, and I enjoyed getting to know his character. It's always the quiet ones, if you catch my drift... Jasper brought out the best in Sloane, and vice versa. I believe that's all there is to it; they were perfect for each other in a number of ways, and even more so when they ended up together.
One thing I can say is that all of the boys in the series are a little slow to catch on, which is understandable, but because this is a childhood friends to lovers' story, I believe Sloane deserved it much sooner. Validation, gratitude, and love—all of it. Jasper demonstrated it in the only manner he knew how, and I admired that about him since we all know how much she means to him but even more so what Jasper means to Sloane.
Because I adore both hockey and cowboys, I really enjoyed the change from all the cowboys to a hockey player. A hockey player and a ballerina—it was a touching story of how their friendship developed into a romance over a long period of time. Despite their difficult lives, they were both very much alike, and I found it to be extremely endearing and I'm happy with how their story was written.
