Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
My rating: 4.2 of 5 stars

This was the first Riley Sager book that I read and honestly, it was really good. It was based on a woman named Maggie Holt and how she and her family used to live in a house called Baneberry Hall. As Maggie grew up her father always insisted that the house was haunted when she was younger and even wrote a book on all the paranormal things that took place in the house. Maggie inherited the house after her father's death, and she goes back to the place where it all happened. She is preparing to sell the house for whoever wants it but starts to uncover the truth about the time she had spent in Baneberry Hall.

Maggie believes everything her father wrote about their stay in the house is false, even though he authored a book titled "House of Horrors." She doesn't remember their stay at Baneberry Hall and finds it puzzling that her parents wouldn't discuss it. The day Maggie's family fled Baneberry Hall there was also a mystery... a child that disappeared and her name is Petra Ditmer, the daughter of Elsa Ditmer, their former housekeeper. Maggie thinks there's a connection between the two incidents. Maggie's now-estranged mother Jessica makes an offer to buy the house, and Maggie decides to do the unthinkable.

This book is very well written, and it's incredible how everything fits together as you read on. She begins to discover if things from the book actually happened or it was all things she imagined and how the past is connected to the present. This book is enjoyable to read and keeps you interested in trying to figure out what will happen next from the very beginning. I give it 4.2 stars. You'll want to read because of how interesting the turns and twists are.

Let me know how you like this book!
