The Turn of The Key

The Turn of The Key by Ruth Ware
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

The Turn of The Key which was also written by Ruth Ware was a compelling read. It starts off with a nanny named Rowan who was imprisoned for the murder of one of the children she was taking care of. I think that's all you need to know and that's all I will give away, the book is based in Scotland's highlands.

Some books I can finish in a day, depending on how immersed I am in the tale and plot and how much time I have. This was a better book than the previous one I read by her because of the frequent narrative twists that I did not see coming. I gave this book 4.5 stars since the details felt so real, and felt like I was there with the protagonist. The number of compelling moments in the story had me in a chokehold and on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out what would happen next.

The story takes place with her in prison and she writes to a famous lawyer - Mr. Wrexham about the events that happened that night, and she tries her best to explain everything that happened beforehand that led to that moment of the child being murdered. As she writes to him, she does so using letters about the past, and it reflects how everything occurred from when she first stepped into the house being hired as a nanny to now her present where she is locked up. I really enjoyed reading this book, because, at the end of every chapter, it grabbed you in and left you wanting to know more about what was going to happen next.

This is the first book that left me in a massive chokehold because it had an ending that I did not foresee but had me wondering and going back to certain parts of the book to understand why it ended the way it did.

A must-read book!
